Bow Creek:
The River Lea from Bromley-by-Bow to Leamouth via Canning Town Guided Walk
with Derelict London & London's Lost Rivers Author Paul Talling
The Lea, not a lost river as such ... This walk explores the dereliction, lost docks, lost pubs and social history along the Lower Lea Valley.
Starting off opposite the recently demolished derelict office block of Brown & Tawse we then walk past the disused Bromley-by-Bow gasholders, some modern art installations along the River Lea, Cody Dock (part of the old Imperial Gas and Chemical Works), tales of boxing, murders & snakes at some former pubs including the Anchor, the Royal Oak & the Ordnance Arms, the site of the Bridge House one of East London's most popular music pubs who helped launch the careers of Depeche Mode & Iron Maiden, remains of disused bridges across Bow Creek, the site of the Thames Ironworks who formed a works football team later to become West Ham United F.C., the lost industries of Leamouth and Trinity Buoy Wharf which contains London's only lighthouse. Finishing up at what is left of the East India Docks. Once famous for it's trade in commodities such as tea, spices, indigo, silk and Persian carpets. Now the remains are used as a wildlife refuge
